Our History
Global Event Medicine was founded in 1995 by Lori A. Boyajian-‐O’Neill, DO; David D. Dyck, Jr., DO; and Scott A. O’Neill in response to a growing need for quality sports medicine services at championship sporting events. GEM has earned a reputation for expert, professional care of athletes and sustained partnerships with sporting event companies. Our reputation for expertise and professionalism extends beyond the acute care of athletes to encompass a robust pre-‐event planning program designed to recognize and mitigate risk for sporting event companies, athletes, and other stakeholders. We are a professional sports medicine company dedicated to the health of athletes and to protect the interests of our clients, sporting events companies. We understand the field of sports medicine and the sporting industry. Our approach is one of collaboration and partnership. We value the relationships we have with our clients and are committed to the success of our clients.
GEM understands that staging a sporting event is challenging. We collaborate with sporting event companies in a partnership of mutual respect and shared goals to ensure stakeholders’ needs and concerns are successfully addressed. GEM physicians and staff have provided medical care at championship events featuring thousands of athletes and spectators including USA Volleyball National Championships; Ironman Triathlon in Kona, USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships; USA Track and Field, Las Vegas Marathon, USA Triathlon, Garman Marathon, and many others. We provided medical services at the Kansas City Aviation Expo and Air Show that attracts over 100,000 spectators. Our leading-edge pre-event planning program and stable core team are the primary reasons for our consistent event/game day success. We are experts at recognizing needs, identifying risk, and developing and implementing plans for a successful event day. We provide comprehensive services for our clients to ensure their success and protect their interests.
We are a company that attracts healthcare professionals dedicated to the care of athletes and understanding of the complex and unique healthcare and medicolegal issues related to mass participation in multi-day sporting events. Our team includes sports medicine physicians, certified athletic trainers, nurses, paramedics, emergency medicine technicians, and other healthcare professionals. This multi-‐disciplinary approach to medical services is a proven model for medical service to care at mass participation multi-‐day sporting events.

Lori A. Boyajian-O’Neill
Lori is intricately involved in the development of the Medical Operations Plan, Emergency Action Plan, and After Action Report for every event. She has extensive experience as a medical director at mass participation sporting events and has a special interest in medical operations as relates to risk mitigation. As GEM’s COO, she marries her extensive sports medicine background with her knowledge and experience in risk assessment and mitigation. She earned a National Sports Safety and Security Management Certificate from the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has also served as Chief Medical Officer for the Mid America Medical Reserve Corps. A member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the International Marathon Medical Directors Association. Dr. Boyajian‐O’Neill is past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. She serves on the ACSM Team Physician Consensus Committee that published Mass Participation Event Management for the Team Physician.
David D. Dyck, Jr.
David has served as medical director for over 100 championship events during his 30+ years of proving sports medicine care. He has distinguished himself as an expert in mass participation in multi-day sporting events. He was a member of the on‐site GEM medical team assembled for World’s Toughest Mudder. He is a USA Volleyball Team Physician and routinely travels internationally providing medical care at international championships. He has been a member of medical teams at sporting events nationwide including the Ironman World Championships in Kailua‐Kona. As GEM’s Chief Medical Officer he assembles and directs the medical team, ensuring that our signature sports medicine care is consistent across events. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine and past president of DOCare International an organization that provides medical care in the underserved area of Mexico and Central America.
Scott O’Neill
Scott is a graduate of the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri. Scott employs an open and collaborative philosophy in his approach to developing relationships with clients. He works very closely with sporting event companies and event directors to develop plans that fit their needs and ensure that services exceed expectations. He was co-‐owner and CEO of Respiserv, a home health company, which was twice named Ingram’s Business Magazine Top 10 Fastest Growing Companies in Kansas City. Scott also holds certificates in Basic and Advanced Disaster Life Support and has training in the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.
